Chinese sage grass is produced in Shandong, southern Jiangsu, southern Anhui, Zhejiang, Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Taiwan, northern Guangdong, northeastern Guangxi, and Sichuan. It often grows on hillsides or flat trees or grasses at an altitude of 120-500 meters; it likes warm or cool climate; the breeding method is generally seed cultivation.

According to the "Anhui Chinese herbal medicine" records of Chinese sage: "promoting blood circulation and relieving pain, clearing heat and detoxifying."
